Paint with Me: Watercolor Portrait

IMG_0743 2.JPG

Hi y’all! I had the privilege of creating this lovely portrait for a customer. This is a very special piece and I know it will be a touching gift for the one who is receiving it.

One of the things I love about what I do is the ability to be able to create pieces that really touch people’s hearts. I’ve always been an emotional person, probably most people that know me think I’m overly emotional. You could say I’m one of those people that cries a lot. Cute movie? Cry. Get yelled at? Cry. Just feeling overwhelmed? Cry. Feeling grateful? Cry.

Being able to capture the emotions and feelings of everyday life in my artwork is something that I love to do.

Another aspect of custom artwork that is so special to me is really getting to know the stories of the people I’m painting. It’s surprising how much you get to know about someone by painting them. You learn a bit about their story. And you even learn certain details about their faces, hair, and posture.

When I received this special order, I knew it was a piece the recipient would cherish. I’ve created hundreds of portraits and every one is unique. This piece is a gift for a bride whose father recently passed away. The photos being used for reference are from her wedding day. Every girl dreams of her wedding day and her dad giving her away. This portrait really shows the love between this daddy and daughter and I’m so glad I could help recreate this moment for the bride in a way she’ll cherish.

I’d love to have you come along and paint this piece with me. I made a time-lapse video of my process and the creation of this piece.

Process

A little bit about my process:

Once the reference photo(s) are sent in, I always send a sketch of the piece to the client. I want to make sure I’m capturing the feeling of the moment and the people in their own unique and special way. I started this video after the sketch was already approved by the client.

Once the piece is finished, I send a final photo of the piece to the customer. If they are happy with it, I’ll go ahead and send the painting in the mail.

I also offer gift wrapping if the customer would like to have the piece sent directly to the recipient. If they would like to add a little note, I can include the gift message with the gift wrapping.
